What is the Massachusetts Health Connector? The Health Connector is a state-based health insurance Marketplace that makes shopping for affordable health and dental coverage easier for Massachusetts individuals, families, and small businesses. You can find plans from the leading health and dental insurers that have been awarded the state's Seal of Approval. This means you can be sure the plan you choose meets both state and national coverage standards. If you need health insurance, the Health Connector is the right place for the right plan We are dedicated to ensuring people who apply for coverage and shop for plans on the website have the best experience possible. Open Enrollment is the time where individuals and families can enroll for health coverage or change their current plan for any reason. If you need health insurance outside of Open Enrollment—called the Special Enrollment Period—you may qualify to enroll in coverage at any time of the year if you've experienced a qualifying life event or are eligible for certain programs like ConnectorCare or coverage through MassHealth. If you don't qualify to enroll during the Special Enrollment Period, you may have to wait until Open Enrollment to enroll in coverage. Niki Conte and Kayla Scire from the Massachusetts Health Connector are here to provide some information for people who are currently enrolled in COBRA but will be losing subsidies at the end of this month. People who chose to take COBRA have the option to enroll through the Health Connector when their subsidies end Losing help paying for COBRA is a qualifying event that lets you enroll outside of the Open Enrollment period. Massachusetts Health Connector Offers Plans with No Premiums to Residents on Unemployment in 2021

August 19, 2021 –Massachusetts residents who have received unemployment compensation at any point in 2021 are eligible for a health insurance plan through the Massachusetts Health Connector with no premium payments through the end of the year, regardless of their income. The availability of plans without premiums for people who’ve been on unemployment benefits at any point in 2021 is part of the federal American Rescue Plan, and makes available commercial health insurance plans that deliver quality benefits. Along with no premium payments, the plans for people who’ve been on unemployment have no deductible, and very affordable co-pays. “The Health Connector is pleased to be able to offer zero-dollar premium, high-quality coverage to Massachusetts residents who have experienced lost employment and income this year due to COVID-19,” said Audrey Gasteier, the Chief of Strategy and Policy at the Massachusetts Health Connector. “Residents who do not have health insurance and who have been on unemployment at any point this year can have the peace of mind of being covered, and not have to worry about making monthly premium payments for the rest of the year.” The plans are available to people who received unemployment for at least one week at any point in 2021 – even if they are no longer receiving checks right now. Comment Letter on the Proposed Rule, “Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act; Updating Payment Parameters, Section 1332 Waiver Implementing Regulations, and Improving Health Insurance Markets for 2022 and Beyond”

The Massachusetts Health Connector has provided robust feedback on the proposed 2022 NBPP updates, strongly supporting the repeal of the direct enrollment option to safeguard consumer protections and ensure transparency in health plan selection. The letter also endorses the restoration of the 2015 Section 1332 waiver guidance to uphold comprehensive coverage standards and promote health equity.
