Due to recent severe weather, the deadline to apply, shop, and pay your first premium for March 1, 2015 coverage has been extended to February 23.

The federal Open Enrollment period ends Sunday, February 15, 2015. However, because the recent series of snowstorms caused some closures in our call and walk-in centers and longer wait times for consumers looking for help, the Baker-Polito Administration, along with the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, has approved an extension for Massachusetts residents.

What does this mean for you?

If you have not yet completed your application or selected a plan, this means that you have an extra week to apply, pick a plan, and make a payment to complete your enrollment in a plan that starts March 1, 2015. If you or your family members are eligible for MassHealth, your coverage will start right away.

The payment deadline for coverage that starts March 1 has not changed.

Applicants still must also make their first premium payment no later than Feb. 23, 2015 to complete their enrollment in a plan that starts March 1. Because members who apply and pick a plan by the 23rd will not receive their first bill by the payment due date, you can find out how to make a payment without a bill in-hand on our “How to Pay” page. You have the option to

  • Pay online,
  • In-person, or
  • By mail.
