The 2024 Health Care Sharing Ministries (HCSM) report to the Massachusetts Health Connector highlights the operations, membership, and financial practices of HCSMs seeking Minimum Creditable Coverage (MCC) status. These faith-based arrangements, which are not subject to ACA consumer protections, require members to adhere to lifestyle agreements and often impose additional fees. In 2023, nine HCSMs reported data, with 2,698 Massachusetts members. Financially, HCSMs covered an average of 37% of submitted medical bills, a decline from 50% in 2022. The report underscores the differences between HCSMs and ACA-compliant insurance, emphasizing the need for transparency and annual reporting.
