Simple Sign-Up Program

There’s an easy way for Massachusetts taxpayers to get help getting into health insurance coverage – right from your 2023 state tax return.

Simple Sign-up is the fill-in option on your Massachusetts state tax return to opt-in to get information about health insurance options through the Massachusetts Health Connector. This information includes plans available to you and whether or not you may be eligible for financial help to lower how much you’d pay for monthly health insurance premiums.

What is the Massachusetts Health Connector?

The Massachusetts Health Connector is the state’s health insurance Marketplace. It offers individuals, families, and small employers affordable health insurance coverage options. In addition, most people who apply get help paying for their health coverage.

How does Simple Sign-up work?

When filling in the option on your tax form through the Simple Sign-up program, you authorize the Massachusetts Department of Revenue to share some tax filer information with the Health Connector. We will use this information to check and see if you are eligible for low- or no-cost coverage. We will send tailored information to you that will explain your eligibility and help those who qualify to enroll in a health plan if you qualify.

What to do

  • Fill in the circle for yourself and your spouse (if you have one and are filing jointly*.) By filling in the box, you give the Massachusetts Department of Revenue (DOR) permission to share information with the Health Connector. See the example below:

  • File your taxes. After you do so, The Massachusetts Department of Revenue will share information with the Health Connector to help determine if you qualify for coverage and savings.

  • Respond to communications from the Health Connector about coverage you may qualify for. You can get free help from a health insurance Navigator if you need it.

*If you’re married and filing jointly, you and your spouse must BOTH check the box to have your information sent over.
